Reefsteamers Special Events

23. June 2018 Planes, Train & Automobiles

On the 23.th June we run a train- vintage plane - vintage car/bike event on the Krugersdorp to Magalies route. The RS train –vintage plane- vintage car event is scheduled for Saturday 23 rd June  and the plane/ car organizers are already on board. The event is in the flying fraternity calendars. I will convene meetings as required to finalize planning arrangements. Note: this is not a race as this invites trouble for the plane pilots in terms of registering the event. I will also take care of advertising to attract photographers/ pilots as I am also a member at the FAKR – Krugersdorp Flying Club. Planes are arranged by  pilot friends. Vintage cars are to be arranged by Vintage Car Club .

Departure from Johannesburg Park Station 08:00 on platform 14

The steam train will depart Krugersdorp heading towards Magaliesburg 9h30 sharp. On the way  from Krugersdorp to Magaliesburg the train is followed by vintage planes and cars / bikes

The train will depart Magalies around 15h00 again followed by the cars/ bikes on the way to Krugersdorp. The train should arrive around 17:30 at the Park Station in Johannesburg

** We are using a very exciting new picnic area called Magalies Sleepy River.  This venue is 10 min from the station by bus.  The cost of the bus fare is R60.00 per adult, R30.00 per child (between the ages of 7 to 12) and children under the age of 6 are free.  The bus fare will be collected from you on the train on the day of the train trip.  The venue has an excellent braai area, fully licenced kiosk where they sell ice cold drinks, soft drinks and ice creams.  They also sell wood and ice. The ablution blocks are kept clean the whole day.  They have a lovely big, sparkling, cold water swimming pool, jungle gyms, lots of large mowed grass and more.   You can also buy a ticket for helicopter flips from Capital Air at the picnic area.  The cost per flip is R250.00.  There will soon be a mini market at the facilities.  For further information, please go onto the website www.magaliessleepyriver.co.za.  Please bring your swimming costumes and towels with you as well as camping chairs and picnic blanket.

Saturday 07. July Winter Photo Shooting @ Reefsteamers Steam Depot

The 07. July winter shoot is arranged specially for steam enthusiasts/photographers to access the Reefsteamers depot in Germiston to photograph locos in steam doing repeated run pasts. As well as one or more running locos in steam, there are many other photographic opportunities - several parked locos including a GMAM Garratt, derelict wagons, coaches, sheds and large workshop with equipment under repair.

We assemble at the depot just before dawn - the freezing weather makes for fantastic steam photography at a cost of R750 per photographer and R700 for non-photographer. No Children under 12 allowed due safety reason. The event is limited to a maximum of 30 photographers per loco in steam and experienced steam photographers are on hand guide comers to the genre.
